What is TMD
The Temporomandibular joint is the connection between your skull and lower jaw. Any issues that prevent facial joints, and muscles from working together cohesively can cause TMD. The most common symptoms of TMD are soreness or discomfort in your jaw area, clicking or locking, restricted mouth movement and headaches. Many factors will affect the treatment approach to TMD, including the lifestyle and severity of the condition. At Smiles on Progress, we will help you find the least invasive yet effective solution to most efficiently tackle your TMD. Some take-home advice to ease TMD pain is a soft diet, physical therapy, hot and cold compresses and over-the-counter anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants.
Night Guards
Nightguards are used to protect your TMJ and prevent loss of teeth enamel. While you may not know it, if you are constantly waking up to jaw pains, is it very likely that you are grinding your teeth; this condition is known as bruxism. Other signs of bruxism are tightness in the jaw muscles and waking up to headaches.
If you are suffering from bruxism symptoms, it is recommended to get a custom guard fitted to your teeth. This way, you can prevent grinding your teeth while still sleeping comfortably.
Mouth Guards
Sports guards act as a protective helmet for your teeth! In high-contact sports, dental injuries are extremely common and fairly severe. Rather than risking potentially having your teeth knocked out, it is highly recommended to have a custom mouth guard made. These mouth guards are firm and protective such that even if you are injured, your teeth will not be harmed. If you are enrolling your children in a martial art class or any contact sport, they should wear a sports guard!

What do people say about us?
My first appointment was xray and cleaning. I went in with a mistrust and fobia of the dentist and they handle it swimly.
The assistant did a breathing exercise before we started and walked me through the process.
Last dentist I had got over zealous when they saw my insurance and caused me to pay $130 out of pocket and that was just a consultation. Dr Lina was transparent and explained what I needed done and what the charges are upfront and what will be sent to my insurance. Finally an Honest Dentist.
My husband has already seen her as his new dentist and I have already made my next appointment.
Highly recommended.
This was our first visit and the process was quick and on time.
We had visited Dr. Elmassad for my mother-in-law who has dental anxiety and is very sensitive about her teeth. Dr. Elmassad took the time to address all our questions and was gentle with my mother-in-law. She understood our concerns and was cognizant of it throughout the examination.
The assistant to the doctor was also professional and courteous.
Both, the doctor and her assistant were accommodating and sensitive towards our cultural needs.
The price of the service provided was affordable.
The receptionist took the time to explain the process of claim submission and provided additional help without request.
Dr. Lina Elmassad was so nice and welcoming. I was terrified of the dentist, after not going for a very long time and she eased my worries quickly. She is very gentle and makes sure you are okay, and all of her co workers are really nice too! I’m so glad I went to her for my first dental trip in a long time.
